The Pismo Beach Chamber of Commerce has initiated a novel means of communicating with the local business community through a series of Coffee Klatches. Every Wednesday morning from 7:30-8:30, a member of the Chamber Board visits a local member Coffee house or restaurant serving morning coffee to listen to input from the community about what is important to them and to answer any questions. Each week, the Chamber’s newsletter identifies the coffee house of the week. The idea for these weekly coffee klatches was conceived by Chairman Tom Burgher and approved by the Board. “People are busy,” Burgher states, “so it is difficult to get feedback or new ideas until an issue reaches a boiling point. The Coffee Klatch offers Chamber members an opportunity to talk to the Board with minimum time commitment, it brings a little more business to the coffee houses, and it allows non-members to learn about the Chamber without committing to a full Board meeting.” The term coffee klatch comes from the German: klatsch, which can be translated as “a social gathering, especially for coffee and conversation.” Coffee Klatches will be held at Coffee houses, which are members of the Pismo Beach Chamber of Commerce throughout Pismo Beach, Shell Beach and Avila Beach for the full year 2018.
